RAID Conference 2024: "Challenges of Misinformation in the Digital Age"

Jonny Shipp, Senior Advisor for The Internet Commission (part of the Trust Alliance Group) participated in a panel discussion titled "Challenges of Misinformation in the Digital Age" on 23rd September (10:00am) alongside other guest speakers including;

  • Professor Andy Phippen, Professor of IT Ethics and Digital Rights, University of Bournemouth
  • Jessica R. Merryfield, Head of Policy & Campaigns, Chartered Trading Standards Institute, UK
  • Collin Dimakatso Mashile Mashile, Chief Director ICT Policy and Research, Department of Communications and Digital Technologies, South Africa

The panel addressed the growing impact of mis- and dis-information across digital platforms and its implications for society, governance, and technology. Speakers will discuss the role of AI in both spreading and combating mis/disinformation, as well as the ethical and regulatory challenges involved. The panel aims to provide insights into how misinformation can be effectively addressed while balancing free speech, platform responsibility, and technological innovation
